Liverpool John Lennon Airport was originally called Speke Airport until it was renamed in honour of the late Beatle. It stands adjacent to the estuary of the River Mersey 12km south-east of the centre of Liverpool off the A561 (junction 6 of the M62/junction 12 of the M56). In recent years Liverpool has become one of Europe's fastest growing airports, increasing annual passenger numbers from 875,000 in 1998 to 4.96 million in 2006. You can fly to most European cities from Liverpool Airport on scheduled and charter flights and provide details on airlines and holiday companies, where they fly to and their contact numbers.

Parking facilities have been extended at the airport, but to keep pace with the increased demand a further multi-storey car park for another 870 vehicles is currently under construction and a new southern runway is also being added. There are three car parking options at the airport: one Short Stay Car Park and two Long Stay Car parks. For disabled parking there are designated bays adjacent to the Terminal Building. Our guide provides full details on where the car parks are located and their tariffs.

If you are arriving at Liverpool John Lennon Airport and want to rent a car then you will find desks for five of the major car hire companies next to the arrivals area. The area where you return your car is conveniently situated close to the airport terminal building. We provide information on how to contact the car rental agencies as well as live flight arrivals to and live flight departures from Liverpool John Lennon Airport.

If you do not want to hire a car then you have the option of booking a taxi, organising a private transfer - where the driver will be waiting for you in the arrivals hall ready to escort you to the car - or you can take the bus or train. Liverpool City Centre is about 8 miles from the airport with a journey time of about 25 minutes, All bus and coach stops are at the front of the terminal building, and there are good communication links from the airport to the City Centre and the Railway Stations (Lime Street, South Parkway, Hunts Cross) and surrounding local areas. The Airlink 500 goes to Norton Street Coach Station where you can connect with National Express Coaches. There is no Railway Station at the airport but you can take the the 81A or 89 buses which stops at Hunts Cross Railway Station, or the Airlink 500 which stops at Lime Street Railway Station where you can make onward connections. The 886, 80A and N86 buses stop at Liverpool South Parkway. We provide full details of routes and timetables and links to the various travel operators.

If you are departing from Liverpool Airport the terminal building is split into 3 levels: Levels 1 and 3 are before going through security so are open to the general public. Level 2 is after security and is for travellers only. Parking and public transport access is immediately in front of the terminal building. Once you are through to the departures lounge you will find a a good range of shops and places to get something to eat and drink. Our guides to shops, bars and restaurants at Liverpool Airport lists just what is available.
Finally our general information section provides details on how to deal with lost luggage, disabled facilities, internet access, First Aid centres, pet travel and where you can change your money as well as current weather conditions at Liverpool John Lennon Airport and a forecast for the next five and ten days.
