To become a physician assistant, you need to make a clear decision to pursue a career in this field. This decision is followed by enrolment in the most appropriate school. A relevent completed university degree is one of the minimum physician assistant requirements. To practice as a physician assistant, you are required to complete an undergraduate degree in this field. You need to enroll in a credible school with an accredited physician assistant program, as each school has it own admission requirements.

At entry level, it is mandatory to you have a high school certificate and that you have completed two years of study in an institution of higher learning. A score of at least 60 credits is required for your post high school academic score. Also, your graduate program should fulfill the requirements of the official physician assistant organization in your country. In the United States, the AAPA or the American Association of Physician Assistants is the official body in the United States.

Also, some clinical experience in the field will be required. You can obtain the necessary experience by doing some voluntary work in a medical setting or by enrolling for an internship program. A Master's degree in this or related field may need to undertaken as some employers require that you have it.

You are required to obtain a license before you can practice as a physician assistant. Before you are legal to practice, you are required to obtain a BLS certification. Further, you will be required to produce a letter of recommendation from a former colleague who is a certified physician to proof your ability and skill. A Physician Assistant National Recertification Exam will need to be taken during your career life to remain certified as a physician assistant during your career life.

A high level of morality and ethical orientation is required when dealing with patients. In order to be a successful PA, you are required to have good people's skills such as effective interpersonal skills. You are required to endure stress and bond well with team members. Problem solving skills and critical thinking are highly regarded skills in this field. The essence of the job is to be about to handle issues independently.
