Teaching, working in the field and researcher are some of the options available to graduate students. Getting a Ph.D is the way you need to go in order to become a practicing psychologist.

State Licensing is Also Required

Every state has their own unique standards and licensing methods that would-be psychologists need to pass in order to practice. There are certification tests as well as some residency level work that needs to be completed under supervision of a practicing psychologist. After certifications, there are also requirements that are ongoing that need to be met to keep licensing current. Courses are available which address this issue.
