There are a lot of craft supplies that a person uses when they are crafting. Have you ever considered what is in those supplies and if it is something that you could make yourself, from the convenience of your home or craft club? And instead of spending more money to buy it already made, you could buy ingredients to make more at home. Polymer clay is one such craft item that can easily be made at home and used whenever you get the urge to be creative. There is no need to run off to the store for polymer clay if you keep a few basic ingredients in your home.

Homemade polymer clay is made of a few ingredients that you may even keep in your house and then mixed up before you want to use. It's as simple as that. The ingredients you will need include white glue - often referred to as school glue or PVA, corn starch, lemon juice and petroleum jelly. All of the items can be purchased in a grocery store or a department store in large quantities, so if you have a big project coming up, you can make it up at home for a lot less money.

The other thing you need to make polymer clay is food colouring. The colouring is what will make your clay fun to play with for kids or to make your project unique. As you are mixing up the clay, work in the food colouring drops at the end and continue kneading until the colour is smooth and uniform throughout your whole piece. If you want a swirled effect, knead only as long as you have the effect you want within the piece of clay.

For people who want to buy store made polymer clay or don't have time to make their own, that's fine too. The clay has the basic ingredients in it, but at a more commercial level so it is easier to mix in huge batches. They will still work with glue and a mixture that sticks together and is easy to knead and work with for small hands or even elderly hands. Polymer clay gets soft when you work with it for a few minutes.

Once you have worked the polymer clay in to your desired shape or design, then place it on parchment paper. Keep it in an area out of direct sunlight but where it will have air circulating around it. Air drying will take a few hours, or up to several days, depending on how large your piece is. Polymer clay can also be hardened by baking it on low in the oven. Follow the package directions or else set the oven to your lowest setting. Bake for intervals of twenty minutes and check to make sure no cracking or splitting of your design is taking place. Once it is dry, then it could even be painted or put on display anywhere in the house. The polymer clay piece needs to be kept away from moisture and it will last for a long time.
Author Resource:- There is a wide variety of clay that can be used for jewellery making, polymer clay is one of them. Like Fimo clay it can be moulded into virutally any shape imaginable.
